Donald B. Ridgley, 78, of Newville, departed this life on the morning of Thursday, January 2, 2025, at his home.
He was born on October 30, 1946, in Chambersburg, a son of the late Franklin E. and Maude (Banks) Ridgley, Sr. Don was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, enlisting on October 13, 1965, and honorably discharged on October 10, 1969. He married Glenda K. Cornman on April 4, 2003, in Niagara Falls, NY.
Earlier in life Don worked at Mack Truck, Hagerstown, but he spent the majority of his working life employed at the Letterkenny Army Depot, retiring in 2011, as a machinist.
Don was a member of the Hays Grove United Methodist Church, Hub City Club, Cumberland Valley Lodge #315 F. & A.M., and a fifty year member of the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post #223, all of Shippensburg. In his free time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, golfing, and mowing the lawn (or just more or less driving the tractor around.) Don was also well known to have quite a substantial collection of t-shirts and hats and he also loved to look after and care for his two dogs, Barney and Parker.
In addition to his wife of twenty-two years, Glenda, he is survived by his step-daughter, Jennifer L. Miller and husband Jason of Carlisle; nine grandchildren; Aliesha, Elizabeth, Katrina, Sierra, Skyler, Bishop, India, and Kasaun; a great grandson, Charlie; his brother, Franklin “Timmy” Ridgley and wife Judy of Fayetteville; a nephew, Shawn Ridgley of Fayetteville; and two daughters, Tracy Ridgley and Melissa Wingert.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Melissa Henry.
His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Monday, January 6, 2025, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. The Rev. Janice Bye will officiate. Military honors will be conducted at the funeral home immediately following the service. Interment will be private. Viewing will be one hour prior to the services on Monday afternoon at the funeral home.
