Donald Laidig

Donald G. Laidig, 85, of Orrstown, died on the morning of Saturday, June 21, 2014, at his home, with his family by his side.

He was born on June 12, 1929, in Lurgan, the son of the late Harvey and Rose Umbrell Laidig. Donald was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War Era, inducted on February 15, 1951, and honorably discharged on February 14, 1953. Then on April 16, 1960, he married Evelyn Maxine Krause, in Rockhill Furnace. She preceded him in death on October 6, 1994.

Donald was a self-employed brick and block mason who worked for many of the local area contractors. He attended the Orbisonia/Rockhill Furnace Church of the Nazarene; was a life member of the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion, Post #223, Shippensburg; and was a member of the Patriotic Order Sons of America, Camp #645. In his leisure time Donald liked to cut fire wood, go hunting, and just enjoy being outdoors and in the woods.

He is survived by his daughter, Alice A. (James B.) Dubbs of Orrstown; three sisters, Gertrude Staver of Shippensburg, Helen Minor of Shippensburg, and Jean (Vanel) Perry of Morristown, NJ; two granddaughters, Heather Dubbs of Orrstown and Courtney (Kyle) Wenger of Mercersburg; one great grandson, Jase Wenger; and many nieces and nephews.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents and spouse.

His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg. The Rev. Darrell Nicklow will officiate. Interment, with military honors conducted by the Shippensburg Area Veterans Council, will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Viewing will be Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lutheran Home Care and Hospice at 2700 Luther Drive Chambersburg, PA 17202.
