Donald Gonser

Donald Ivan Gonser passed away peacefully on December 12, 2020 at the Shippensburg Health Care Center, Shippensburg, PA.

He was born in St. Ignace Michigan on February 26. 1933. He was the first son born to Reverend Ivan Gonser and Alma (Rutherford) Gonser who preceded him in death.

Donald was graduated from Ironwood, MI high school, and Springfield College in IL with a degree in Physics. He also earned a certificate to preach from the Methodist church district in MI. Donald’s passion was inventing while working as head of Research and Development for various companies among them Dentsply International and Den-Tal-ez, Inc. Donald was a member of Silver Spring Presbyterian Church, Mechanicsburg, PA. He was a quiet, gentle, loving man that enjoyed plays, anything about science and religion, cruises, fine dining, all dogs, family, the “Three Stooges” and the one that made him laugh on a daily basis, his loving wife “Jill”.”

Preceding him in death was his first wife, Mary Ellen (Williams), brothers Robert, Kenneth, son Jeffery, and granddaughter Mary Beth Stasiak.

Surviving are his second wife, Suzanne “Jill” Handshew Gonser in Mechanicsburg PA, his daughter Debbie McGary and companion George Vespooi from Hamilton, OH,,son Mark Gonser and his wife Patricia (Tolley), in Hamilton, OH, Stephen Gonser and his wife Jenny in Carlisle, PA, niece Karen (Gonser) Sweger, his “adopted” daughter in Burton, MI and his youngest brother Marvin and Marylyn (Vaysabel) in Grandville MI. Also surviving are many grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and step children Debbie (Graham) and Terence Bresnahan, Amherst MA, Judson and Gretchen (Hemeon) Graham of Dennis, Cape Cod MA, Candace Graham and companion Michael Higgins of Punta Gorda, FL and Curtis and Wendy (Speight) Graham of Chalfont, PA.

Services and burial will be private in Ironwood, Michigan.
