Donald E. “Lefty” Gardner, 67, of Newburg passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born Saturday, October 30, 1948, in Chambersburg, he was the son of Eugene P. and Virginia M. Martin Gardner.
Donald was a 1966 graduate of the Shippensburg Area Senior High school. He was a United States Air Force Veteran serving during the Vietnam War. Donald was a member of the Newburg First Church of God where he volunteered in various aspects of the church including Vacation Bible School.
He was a member of IOOF Lodge, Newburg, Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post # 223, he was an avid golfer, loved all sports, and loved spending time with his family, friend and especially his grandchildren. Donald volunteered for the Friends of the Shippensburg Public Library.
Surviving is his wife of 46 years, Bonnie Stevick Gardner, one daughter, Stephannie A. (husband Toby) Fauver, Carlisle, one son, Eric E. Gardner, Newburg, four grandsons; Mackenzie, Joshua, and Spencer Fauver, and Ash Gardner, also surviving are numerous aunts, and uncles.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in the Newburg First Church of God, with the Rev. Dale H. Miller, Jr., officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. A viewing will be held Sunday, July 24th from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the Newburg First Church of God, and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday, in the church.
