Donald Daihl

November 6, 1933 — April 18, 2014

The Honorable Donald W. Daihl, (Ret.) District Judge, 80, passed on to his heavenly home on April 18, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Lurgan Township on November 6, 1933, he was a son of the late Ebbert H. and Helen A. Watson Daihl.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Mildred M. Rotz Daihl, and children Debra K. Ocker (Lee), Joanne D. Schrader (Thomas), Lisa M. Dubbs (Darryl), Kathleen D. Jones (Pete), Stephanie J. Daihl-Wall (Garry), and grandchildren Bradley (Melissa) and Michael Ocker, Phillip, Patrick and Ryan Schrader, Alyssa and Zachary Dubbs, Marlee and Sydney Jones, and Sophia and Hayleigh Wall, and two great-grandchildren Kloe and Luke Ocker. He was predeceased by his brother, Robert E. Daihl.

Donald graduated from Shippensburg Area High School in 1952. He served in the United States Army as a radar repairman, receiving an honorable discharge in 1956. He was certified as a Magisterial District Judge in 1981.

Donald owned a bulk milk hauling business, farmed, dealt in livestock privately and then owned the Shippensburg Livestock Barn along with John Reeves. He was elected to the office of District Justice in 1981, retiring in 1998.

He loved spending time with family, camping, and NASCAR races. The Saunderosa Camp Ground was like a second home for many years.

He was a member of the Shippensburg First Church of God, Special Judges Association of Pennsylvania, Newburg-Hopewell Fire Company, Orrstown Lodge #262, Tall Cedars of Lebanon Valley Forest #145, Harrisburg Scottish Rite, Shippensburg Scottish Rite, American Legion Post 223, Mercersburg Moose, and the Rine Village “Scooter Riders.” He was a previous member of the Newburg Borough Council serving as president for a number of years.

Funeral services will be held Friday, April 25, 2014, at 2 p.m. in the Shippensburg First Church of God. Officiating will be Rev. Wayne A. Good and Pastor William Myers. A viewing will be held Thursday, from 6-8 p.m. at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.
A Masonic service will be performed at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 24. Burial, with military honors, will be in Spring Hill Cemetery, Shippensburg.
