Dolores A. Stern, 84, of Shippensburg, departed this life on the morning of Thursday, October 15, 2020, at her home.
She was born on August 9, 1936, in Wauzeka, WI, a daughter of the late Arnold and Clara (Steines) Scheckel and married John Peter Stern on August 9, 1958 in Washington, DC.
Dolores was a homemaker throughout her life, helping raise her large family as a loving wife and caring mother. While at home she worked as a Russian linguist for thirty-five years. Dolores and John enjoyed taking cruises and they traveled to many places, all over the world. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, and spending time with her family. Dolores was raised on a farm, so she always had a love for farming, and from time to time, she enjoyed the challenge of “climbing silos.” Dolores had a strong Catholic faith and was a member of the Our Lady of the Visitation Catholic Church, Shippensburg.
In addition to her husband of sixty-two years, John Peter, she is survived by eight children, John Kenneth Stern and wife Paula of Carlisle, PA, Clay Michael Stern and wife Janice of Atlantic City, NJ, Lee Ann Graham and husband James of Abbeville, AL, Nancy Marie Repack of Charlotte, NC, Thomas Darren Stern and wife Connie of Sykesville, MD, Karen Lynn Stang and husband Timothy of Glenwood, MD, Sharon Kay McWhorter and husband Roddy of Roswell, GA and Richard Mark Stern and wife Marie of Pittsburgh, PA; seventeen grandchildren; five great grandchildren; one sister, Chalotte Scheckel of Amonisa, IA; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Dolores was preceded in death by eight siblings.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at Our Lady of the Visitation Catholic Church, Shippensburg. Father Dwight Schlaline will officiate. Interment will be private. Viewing will be held one hour prior to Mass on Tuesday morning at the church.
