Dolores Carey

Dolores Gilbert Carey, 77, of Shippensburg, departed this life on the evening of Saturday, October 7, 2017, at the Orrstown Personal Care Home.

She was born on January 27, 1940, in Shippensburg, a daughter of the late Richard C. “Buck” Gilbert and Genevie L. Evans Shearer and married Ernest “Lee” Carey on July 25, 1958, in Chambersburg.

Dolores was a homemaker throughout her life, but also worked for a period of time as a telephone operator and an inspector at several of the former local garment factories. Most recently Dolores baked for the Mainsville United Brethren food stand at Hershey’s Auction, Shippensburg.

She was a member of the Mainsville United Brethren Church and the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post #223 Ladies Auxiliary. Dolores enjoyed baking deserts, going to yard sales, movies, and Gospel music, especially from the Statler Brothers and Gaither Brothers. She was always willing and able to help others, even without being asked, and loved to laugh and make others laugh. Dolores loved her family and enjoyed the holiday’s and being able to have everyone come home.

She is survived by her husband of fifty-nine years, Lee; her daughter, Julie Carey Boggs and husband Robert of Shippensburg; two sons, Jeff W. Carey and wife Martha of Sebastian, FL and Tom E. Carey and wife Terri of Shippensburg; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; three brothers; two sisters; and many nieces and nephews.

Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Thursday, October 12, 2017, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. Pastor Donald L. Herb will officiate. Interment will follow in the Parklawns Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mainsville United Brethren Church.
