Denise Irving Powell, 68, of Shippensburg passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Born Friday, January 14, 1955 in Hagerstown, MD, she was a daughter of the late Roy A. and Janet R. (Noland) Sampsell, Sr. Denise was a 1973 graduate of South Hagerstown High School, she attended Millersville State College, and received an associate’s degree from Hagerstown Junior College.
She retired in 2015 from the Susquehanna Bank as a Loan Department Manager.
Denise was a wonderful person and had a reputation for helping and taking care of things wherever she went. She never missed a family birthday party, picnic, or holiday gathering, and she always came with her camera around her neck and spent most of the time taking candid shots of everyone there. Some of those photos later showed up on that person’s homemade birthday card from Denise.
Her much-loved hobby was scrapbooking which she started many years ago. Her 30+ albums include all the photos she has taken over the years, and she recently made “family albums” and gave them to some of her nieces and nephews – all photos of their family! Denise spent many hours every day working on her scrapbooks during her final illness.
Denise is survived by her husband of 28 years, John C. Powell whom she married March 22, 1995; one sister Linda G. (Randall) Burns, of Keedysville, MD; two very close nieces Nicole D. (Allen) Twigg, of Falling Waters, WV, Megan L. (Matthew) Ryan, of New Market, MD; one great-niece, Madelyn R. Ryan, of New Market, MD; and several other nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one brother Roy A. Sampsell Jr.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, April 10, 2023 at Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home and Crematorium Inc. with Pastor Gary Hornbaker officiating. Burial will be held in the Spring Hill Cemetery. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service at the Funeral Home on Monday.
