Denise A. Barrick, 59, of Newville, departed this life in the early morning hours of Tuesday, December 15, 2015, at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born on May 28, 1956, in Hustontown, Fulton Co., the daughter of Donald and Arlene Morse Black. Denise earned a masters degree in Biology from Shippensburg University in 1978, while also playing on the basketball team. She married William S. ‘Bill” Barrick on July 11, 1981, in the Memorial Lutheran Church, Shippensburg.
Denise worked as a Learning Support Aid for the Big Spring School District for sixteen years and also coached the girls basketball team for many years. She was a former Girl Scout and Boy Scout Troop Leader for her children when they were younger. Denise did a lot of reading, and enjoyed watching Jeopardy and competing against her family for the correct answers. Though she was known as a tough competitor and was pretty hard to beat at it.
In addition to her parents, Denise is survived by her husband of 35 years, Bill; one daughter, Megan A. Barrick of Newville; one son, Travis W. Barrick of Newville; two brothers, Jeff Black and Randy Black, both of Hustontown; and a niece and nephew.
Her memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, December 19, 2015, at the Doubling Gap Church of God, Newville. Pastor Donald C. Snyder will officiate. Interment will be private. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday, at the church.
