Deborah F. Spero, 73, of Scotland, departed this life on the morning of Thursday, March 2, 2023, at her home.
She was born on July 7, 1949, in Columbia, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Leonard C. and Lois (Wolfe) Porter. Deb married Daniel Spero on August 9, 1969, in the Prince Street United Brethren Church, Shippensburg.
Deb worked at the former A & P Grocery Store as a cashier. She also owned and operated a small “cat sitting” business out of her home for many years. Deb loved animals, especially cats, and she had at one time a pet raccoon that she saved and rehabilitated. She was also known to clean out the pantry at home to feed the ducks in the Conococheague.
Deb was a well-known, loved, and very active member of the Scotland community. She was instrumental in becoming a sponsor of a team, which led to the creation of the local girls softball youth league. Deb also mowed the grass at the community park for over twenty years and called BINGO at the community center.
In her free time, you could often find her shopping at Kohls in Chambersburg. At home Deb was a wonderful wife and mother who loved her husband, children, and grandchildren fiercely.
In addition to her husband of fifty-four years, Daniel, she is survived by two sons, Eric Spero and wife Meng Shang of Tabernacle, NJ, and Kirk Spero of Ephrata, PA; two grandchildren, Jordin and Jonathan Spero of Ephrata; and a brother, Steve Porter.
Deb was preceded in death by her parents.
Her funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. There will be no public viewing, visitation, or funeral service. Interment will also be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter.
