David L. Varner, 78, of Shippensburg, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 7, 2018 at Geisinger Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill, surrounded by his loving family.
Born Thursday, January 18, 1940 in Walnut Bottom, he was a son of the late Beattie Christopher and Almeda Jane Zinn Varner.
David was a graduate of Big Spring High School. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam and Korean Wars with 20 years of service. David retired as a welder from the Naval Depot in 1999 with 20 years of service.
He attended the South Mountain Chapel, he was a member of the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post # 223, the Durff-Kuhn VFW Post # 6168, and the Minnequa Social Club, all in Shippensburg.
David is survived by one daughter, Veronica M. (husband Darryl) Seeders; one grandson, Jeremiah K. “Miah” Seeders; one granddaughter, Nicole M. (husband Jesse) Godfrey; one great granddaughter, Taylor R. Godfrey; two great grandsons, Noah J., and Kole M. Godfrey, all of Shippensburg, his companion, Donna J. Cassell, of Camp Hill; three brothers, Robert, Galen, and Kenneth Varner; and one sister, Fay Over.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, David Philip Varner who passed away June 18, 2017, six brothers, Marlin, Russell, Richard, Rodney, Glenn, and Floyd Varner, and two sisters, Dorothy, and Freda Varner.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium Inc., with the Rev. David A. Erisman officiating. Burial will be in the Cleversburg Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post # 223 Minutemen. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service on Tuesday in the funeral home.
