David J. Myers, 77, of Newburg, departed this life on the morning of Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at his home.
He was born on April 24, 1946, in Chambersburg, a son of the late John N. and Mildred (Newell) Myers. David married Linda M. Carroll on August 21, 1965, in Orrstown.
Early in life, David worked at the former Goodhart Sandbank and Nitterhouse, but worked the majority of his life at the former Ingersoll Rand, now Volvo, as a welder/assembler, retiring in 2008. After retiring, David began driving for many of the local Amish families in the area.
In his free time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and mushroom hunting. David also raised pigs, cows, chickens, and turkeys throughout his life. He was very artistically inclined and was skilled at many different types of handcrafts. He enjoyed making knives, flintlock rifles, black powder horns and pouches. David drew sketches of almost all of the things he’d make beforehand and was very skilled at scrimshaw as well.
In addition to his wife of fifty-eight years, Linda, he is survived by four children, Chester W. Myers and wife Julie of Newville, Tammy K. Beltz and husband Carl of St. Thomas, Arthur R. Myers and wife Cindy of Needmore, and Sam E. Myers and wife Krista of Chambersburg; eight grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; one brother, Boyd Myers of Upper Strasburg; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Myers.
His funeral service will be held at 9:00 a.m., on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. Pastor Dale Detweiler will officiate. Interment will follow in the Parklawns Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at the funeral home.
