November 1, 1939 — February 24, 2025

Shippensburg

David B. Hippensteel, Jr., 85, of Shippensburg departed this life peacefully surrounded by loving family on Monday, February 24, 2025.

Born Wednesday, November 1, 1939, he was a son of the late Edna (Pensinger) and David B. Hippensteel, Sr.

David was a member of the former First Wesleyan Church which he attended. He was a very active outdoorsman and was a lifetime member of the Pennsylvania Trapper Association and the Big Spring Fish and Game Club in Newville in addition to numerous other outdoor clubs. As a very hard worker, he spent many years working at Richard’s Textiles in Shippensburg and the American Can Company in Chambersburg. He then became self-employed and ran his own business, Dave’s Bait and Tackle for over 20 years, which he and his family were very proud of.

In his free time, David loved to fish, hunt, trap, and be outside. He saw every moment as a teaching opportunity influencing the lives of many young outdoorsmen and would tell stories about his personal hunting and fishing experiences. David was a true man of faith and family. He read his Bible daily and enjoyed listening to Christian music.

David is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Darlene (Fickes) Hippensteel; a daughter, Jacqueline Swanger of Shippensburg; a son, David B. Hippensteel, III of Shippensburg; three grandchildren, Selena and husband Bill Kennedy of Shippensburg, Mark D. Swanger of Shippensburg, and Dylan Alexander of Newburg; great grandchildren, Layne Swanger of Mechanicsburg and Jeriah Swanger of New Germantown; two sisters Patricia and husband Rev. J. Calvin Alt of Newark, DE, and Nancy and husband Earl Kline of Shippensburg; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents David was preceded in death by a sister Linda Luttrell.
