David Heckman

November 1, 1951 — June 22, 2019

David A. Heckman, 67, of Shippensburg, departed this life on the afternoon of Saturday, June 22, 2019.

He was born on November 1, 1951, in Chambersburg, a son of the late Jack E. and Rita K. (Schuhart) Heckman.

David worked in maintenance, on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, for thirty-five years, retiring in 2007. His co-workers affectionately nicknamed him “The Beast.” In his younger years, David worked along-side his father, delivering milk for Hershey’s Dairy.

He was a member of the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion, Durff-Kuhn V.F.W., Minnequa Social Club, and the Hub City Club, all of Shippensburg. At times in his life, David enjoyed hunting, shooting pool, throwing darts, and bowling. He loved to be outdoors and liked to sit outside at home and watch for hummingbirds at the feeder. David loved his dog Sammy, who was always a good buddy and companion to him. David will be remembered as the kind of person who would always look to help someone out whenever and however he possibly could.

He is survived by his daughter, Heather R. Heckman of Shippensburg; granddaughter, Brandi R. Starr of Shippensburg; grandson, Richard N. Burkholder of Spartanburg, SC; his ex-wife, with whom he remained friends, Doreen L. (Snouffer) Heckman of Shippensburg; one brother, John E. (Saundra) Heckman of Marion; one sister, Barbara J. Shroyer of Spartanburg, SC; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by one brother, Richard L. Heckman.

His funeral services, entrusted to the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg, will be private. There will be no public viewing or visitation. Friends may express online condolences at www.fogelsanger-brickerfuneralhome.com.

Memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home to defray his final expenses.
