Daniel R. ‘Dan” Crider, 67, of Chambersburg, died in the late afternoon hours of Monday, June 29, 2015, at the Meritus Medical Center, Hagerstown, MD.
He was born on March 27, 1948, in Shippensburg, PA, a son of the late Daniel A. and Edith H. Varner Crider. Daniel was a U.S. Army veteran and spent most of his military service in Berlin, Germany, enlisted in October 1967 and honorably discharged in September 1971. He married Ms. Sonja Trepse on February 12, 1971, in Berlin, Germany. She preceded him in death on October 3, 2012.
Daniel was employed at the Letterkenny Army Depot for 33 years, retiring as a battery repairman in June 2013.
He was a member of the Prince Street United Brethren Church, Shippensburg and most recently attended the King Street Church, Chambersburg. Daniel was a life member of the Charles Nitterhouse V.F.W. Post #1599, the Amvets Post #224, and the Landis McLeaf Marine Corps League, all of Chambersburg; as well as the Detrich-Brechbill American Legion Post #612, St. Thomas. In his younger years, Daniel had a hobby farm and liked to garden; enjoyed woodworking, working on cars, and traveling with his wife.
Daniel is survived by his three daughters, Kristina Marija (James) Mowery of Middleburg, Mira Ann (Jesse) Olson of Gapland, MD, and Eileen Rosalie (Mark) Mason of Mercersburg; two granddaughters, Abigail Morgan Olson and Payton Taylor Olson, both of Gapland; his sister, Martha Jane (Earl) Ford of Harrisburg; a special friend, Gloria Souders of Chambersburg; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and spouse, Daniel was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Roy B. and Shirley Crider.
His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, July 8, 2015, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg. The Rev. Paul Baker and Rev. Lester Stine will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow in the Parklawns Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be two hours prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
