Dana L. Peterson, 91, formerly of Shippensburg, late of Carlisle, departed this life on the morning of Friday, August 18, 2023, at his home.
He was born on October 19, 1931, in Shippensburg, a son of the late Ardella (Helm) Peterson. Dana was a graduate of Shippensburg High School and a United States Army veteran. He married Mary Irene Lepley on June 16, 1961, in the Memorial Lutheran Church, Shippensburg. He was a member of the Shippensburg First Assembly of God Church.
Dana worked for the majority of his life at the Letterkenny Army Depot, retiring as a computer operator. After retirement, he then worked part-time in maintenance at Shippensburg University. Dana always enjoyed playing horse shoes. He also liked to go hunting and fishing. Dana and his brother Glenn once took a memorable trip out West to see the rodeos’. He always remembered and spoke fondly of that time.
In addition to his wife of sixty-two years, Mary, he is survived by his daughter, Sharon I. Askey and husband Paul of Carlisle; three grandchildren, Elisabeth Drahota and husband Nathan of Washington State, Sara Ackerson of Mt. Holly Springs, and Benjamin Askey and wife Samantha of Shippensburg; eight great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his mother, Dana was preceded in death by two brothers, Ross “June” and Glenn Peterson; and his sister, Zelda “Tootie” Lloyd.
His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, August 24, 2023, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. Pastor Daniel E. Cluck will officiate. Interment will follow in the Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. Viewing will be Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., and one hour prior to the service on Thursday, at the funeral home.
