Dana C. Mathna, 92, of Washington Street, Shippensburg, died Sunday, January 19, 2014 in the Chambersburg Hospital.
Born Saturday, April 2, 1921 in Shippensburg, he was the son of the late Violet L. Mathna Eckenrode.
Dana was a 1939 graduate of the Shippensburg Senior High School, he was a member of the Shippensburg First Church of God for 69 years, where he served on the Church Council, Financial Secretary and was a member of their Men’s Bible Class. Dana was a United States Army Veteran serving in WWII with the 248th Field Artillery Battalion in North Africa.
He was an employee of the former Shirtcraft and L’Aiglon Dress Companies and later retired from Domestic Pump all in Shippensburg. After retirement, he became the custodian at the Shippensburg First Church of God.
Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Helen Margaret Hoover Mathna, two daughters, Janet L. Walls and her husband, Dennis of Enola, Barbara A. Mathna of Elizabethtown, three sons, D. Alan Mathna and his wife Sharon of Chambersburg, Ronald L. Mathna and his wife Rae of Newville, Richard L. Mathna and his wife Darlene of Shippensburg, one grandson, Tyler C. Mathna of Newville, one step grandson, Justin B. Davidson of Dillsburg, one granddaughter, Brooke E. Mathna of Graceton and two step great grandchildren, Connor and Reese.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a son Randall Scott Mathna.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, January 24, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the Shippensburg First Church of God, with the Rev. Stephen Dunn and Pastor William E. Myers officiating. Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service in the church.
