Dale E. Reed

Dale E. Reed, 90, of Pleasant Hall, passed away the afternoon of Monday, March 31, 2025 at the Chambersburg Hospital.

He was born on Saturday, September 8, 1934 in Shippensburg, Franklin County, a son of the late James F. and Lottie V. (Eyer) Reed, Sr. He married Portia L. (Ott) on September 27, 1956.

Dale was a 1952 graduate of the Shippensburg High School and a United States Navy Veteran. He retired as a munitions foreman from Letterkenny Army Depot. Dale enjoyed woodworking, golfing, and was an avid fan of the Washington Commanders. He also enjoyed putting puzzles together, hunting, and fishing with his mother-in-law.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Portia L. Reed of Pleasant Hall; three children, Robin D. Hardy of Chambersburg, Bridget D. Reed and companion Alan Sweger of Pleasant Hall, and Jamie D. Reed of Florida; three grandchildren, Justin Hardy, Robert James Reed, and Heather Reed; and six great-grandchildren, Jinger, Cruz, Kayden, Oaklynn, Natalie, and Camden.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four siblings, John Reed, Ralph J. Reed, Louise R. Hockersmith, and J. Floyd “Buck” Reed, Jr.

A time of fellowship and refreshments to celebrate Dale’s life will be held on Thursday, April 3, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Pleasant Hall Fire Company, 9722 Cumberland Highway, Pleasant Hall, PA 17246.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg.
