D. Lester Kuhn

D. Lester “Les” Kuhn, 80, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Friday, March 20, 2020 at home.

Les was born September 29, 1939 at the Chambersburg, PA Maternity Home. He graduated from Chambersburg High School in 1957. Les was self-employed and owner of several businesses: 1963-1972 Hawbaker & Kuhn Kitchen Center in Chambersburg, PA; 1972-2000 Kuhn Woodworking in Westminster, MD; 2000-2015 Kitchens at the lake located at Smith Mountain Lake, VA; and most recently Kitchens by Les in Chambersburg, PA. Les is a member of the Church of the Open Door in Westminster, MD and attended King Street United Brethren Church in Chambersburg, PA. Les was a life-long member of the National Kitchen & Bath Association, NKBA and a Certified Kitchen Designer, CKD for 30 plus years. He was also active in the Smith Mountain Classic Wood Boat Club as well as the Smith Mountain Lake Model Railroad Club, which he helped to found in 2004.

Les is survived by his wife, Delores J. (Hawbaker) Kuhn. They were married June 26, 1960. One son, Jeffrey (Karen) Kuhn of Westminster, MD, two daughters, Joanne (Mark) Owens of Westminster, MD and Jody (Tommy) Hendrix of Asheville, NC. He is also survived by five grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, plus many loving nieces and nephews. His parents, David & Helen (Stine) Kuhn and his brother Dale Kuhn preceded him.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, March 24, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. in the Pleasant Hall Cemetery. Officiating will be The Rev. Ron Cook and Rev. John Ile, Jr.

A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, Mr. Kuhn has requested that gifts in his memory be directed to The Cure for Pulmonary Fibrosis Fund at Johns Hopkins, under the direction of Dr. Maureen Horton. Checks should be written to JHU, with Dr. Maureen Horton/Cure for Pulmonary Fibrosis Fund and your name noted. Checks can be sent to: Anne M.
