Cyril Ross Cassner Jr, 70, of Shippensburg, was born October 25, 1946 in Newburg, and died on October 28, 2016. He was the son of Cyril R. Sr. and Violet O (Franklin) Cassner.
Cyril known as Cy to his closest friends, graduated from SASHS in 1964. He served in the United States Marines where he was decorated with the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Rifle Marksmanship Badge.
He worked 40 years for McCoy Bros Construction working his way from Foreman to VP of Procurement. He volunteered 15 years of his time to the Shippensburg Area Little League. He dedicated 15 years to the Boy Scouts of America, Order of the Arrow and Jaycees.
He was nominated as a honorary brother of Acacia Fraternity of Shippensburg University.
Cyril was a member of the Marine Corps League, VFW and American Legion. He attended Prince Street United Brethren Church in Shippensburg. He was an avid Duke Basketball fan. He enjoyed listening to oldies music, playing cards, going to sporting events, fishing, woodworking, attending fairs and festivals and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He was a selfless man always putting everything and everyone before himself. He was a master craftsman with his hands when it came to building but his greatest attributes in life were his perpetual love for his wife and as a mentor and role model for his children. Cyril was the epitome of inspiration and made everyone that he came in contact with him a better person.
Cyril is survived by his wife of 47 years Judy A. (Nye) Cassner, his wife of 47, two children, son Chad R. Cassner and his wife Noreen of Douglassville, and daughter Heidi C. Martin and her husband Christopher of Sykesville, MD, and five grandchildren, Hannah, Taylor and Payton Cassner, Sydney and Luke Martin.
In addition to his parents Cyril was preceded in death by his sister Ruby L. Lineaweaver.
Cyril wanted to express a special thank you to all of the staff and medical professionals at Geisinger Medical Center and the University of Maryland Medical Center. He was truly grateful for being given the opportunity to be in their care. He continually commented on how impressive each and every person was at both facilities.
