Clarence Martin

Clarence R. Martin, 90, a resident of Penn Hall, died on the morning of Saturday, January 5, 2013.

He was born on October 17, 1922, in Marion, PA, a son of the late Clyde W. and Ella B. Heckman Martin. On January 24, 1945, Clarence married Ms. Thelma L. Gettel in Hagerstown, MD.

Clarence was a self employed dairy farmer, retiring from the farm in 1984. He once won an award from the Heinz Co., for being a Top Ten Tomato Grower for ten years in a row and was very fond of all of his John Deere farm equipment.

He was a member of the Ridge Church of the Brethren for over sixty years, a trustee of the former Valley Bank, a representative for the Adams Electric Cooperative, a board member of the F.H.A., Chambersburg, and a member of the Good Sams Camping Club. Clarence visited all of the 48 Contiguous states, a fact that he was very proud of.

Clarence is survived by his wife of 68 years, Thelma, four sons, Robert L. (Patsy) Martin of Chambersburg, Ray L. (Gloria) Martin of Waynesboro, Clyde E. Martin of Newville, and Garry W. (Vicki) Martin of Mercersburg; two daughters, Ruth M. Bradley of Ypsilanti, MI and Peggy M. (Gerald) Porter of Chesapeake, VA; two brothers, Elmer Martin and Ellis Martin, both of Chambersburg; one sister, Kathryn Martin of Chambersburg; sixteen grandchildren; twenty eight great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and Kenneth Martin.

His funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m., on Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at the Ridge Church of the Brethren, with Brother Earl F. Stovall officiating. Interment will follow in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg. Viewing will be Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg, and one hour prior to the services on Tuesday, at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ridge Church of the Brethren at 1095 Ridge Road Shippensburg, PA 17257.
