Clara A. Johanson, 95, formerly of Upper Strasburg, PA, died on the morning of Thursday, September 26, 2013, at Ravenwood, Hagerstown, MD.
She was born on March 31, 1918, in Upper Strasburg, a daughter of the late John F. and Amelia Gipe Rosenberry. On December 2, 1942, Clara married Mr. Arthur Johanson in Chambersburg. He preceded her in death on October 15, 1991.
During her working years, Clara was employed as a cook and waitress at many of the local area social clubs.
She was a current member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, Chambersburg. In her younger days, Clara was the organist at the Upper Strasburg United Brethren Church. She loved to play the piano and was very well known as an exceptional singer. Clara was once active in the Rebekahs and served on the Letterkenny Twp. Election Board for many years.
She is survived by her son, Dale A. Johanson of Chambersburg; her daughter, Judy Johanson Stitely of Waynesboro; four grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Clara was preceded in death by her sister, Eileen Allen.
Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, October 1, 2013, at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, Chambersburg. Pastors Dennis Chisholm and Jeff McCracken will officiate. Interment will follow in the Methodist Cemetery, Upper Strasburg. Viewing will be Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg, and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday, at church.
