Clair “Dick” Stoops, 78, of Newburg, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 from the Chambersburg Hospital.
Born Wednesday, June 2, 1943 in Chambersburg, Franklin County, he was the son of the late Daniel Clair Stoops and Martha Bumbaugh Stoops Black.
He was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church in Newburg.
Dick retired from the South Mountain Restoration Center and from the position of equipment operator and previous barber. Dick operated a barber shop in Newburg for 13 years after 1965.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Relda S. Ile Stoops; one daughter, Yvonne M. Pyne and her husband Timothy of Newburg; one son, Scott E. Stoops and his wife Wendy of Shippensburg; three grandchildren, Justin T. Pyne, Chelsea M. Pyne of Newburg, and Jessa S. Stoops of Shippensburg; one great grandson, Westin J. Pyne of Newburg. Also surviving are two half brothers, Charles Black of Chambersburg and Denver Black and his wife Karen of Robertsdale; three step brothers, John Black and wife Carol of Newburg, Donald Black of Orrstown, and Jim Black of Newburg; and one step sister, Doris Diehl of Newburg.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step father, Charles H. Black, and step brother, Robert C. Black.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. in the Otterbein United Methodist Church, with Pastor Bruce Levy and the Rev. John A. Ile, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Otterbein Cemetery. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service on Tuesday in the Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Otterbein Abiding Memorial Trust Fund, 15634 Paxton Run Road, Newburg, PA 17240.
