Christopher Ray Campbell, 18, of Shippensburg, passed away Thursday, January 27, 2011 in the M.S. Hershey Medical Center from injuries sustained in a single-car automobile accident. Christopher was a member of the senior class of 2011 at Shippensburg Area Senior High School.
Born December 20, 1992 in Chambersburg, Franklin County, he was a son of Kevin R. and Catherine M. Rhyner Campbell of Shippensburg.
Christopher was a letterman on the Shippensburg Track and Cross Country Teams. He was an Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America Troop 120. Chris was an active member of the Christ United Methodist Church in Shippensburg.
Christopher earned many academic awards and had been accepted at Pennsylvania State University, University Park, and Drexel University Honors College.
Christopher’s quiet leadership and dogged determination to motivate and cheer on his many friends will be missed by all who loved him.
In addition to his parents he is survived by his sister, Mary S. Campbell of Shippensburg, a grandfather, Randall G. Campbell of Blairsville, PA, many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and many close family friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, James and Peg Rhyner, and Norma L. Campbell.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. in the Mt. Rock Brethren in Christ Church, 22 Mt. Rock Road, Shippensburg, PA 17257. Officiating will be The Rev. Michael C. Weigel. A private burial will be held in the Spring Hill Cemetery. There will be no viewing or visitation.
Christopher believed in the power of organ donation to help others, and his family enrolled Chris in the Gift of Life organ donation program through Hershey Medical Center.
Christopher’s many successes will be remembered through a memorial scholarship that will benefit other Shippensburg area students. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Chris Campbell Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Orrstown Bank, P.O. Box 250, Shippensburg, PA 17257.
