Chester Railing

Chester “Cork” Railing, 84, of Shippensburg, died on the morning of Sunday, May 18, 2014, at his home.

He was born on March 29, 1930, in Shippensburg, a son of the late Chester T. and Mildred Ott Railing, Sr. Cork was a U.S. Navy veteran, enlisting on March 31, 1948 and honorably discharged on February 8, 1950. Shortly thereafter, he married L. Arlene Reese on May 13, 1950, at the Hagerstown Baptist Church, Hagerstown, MD.

Cork was employed as a Supervisor, at the former Hoffman Mills, Shippensburg, for forty-two years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Prince Street United Brethren Church and the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post #223, both of Shippensburg. In his free time, Cork liked to hunt and fish and he was a big supporter of Shippensburg High School Athletics, hardly ever missing a game.

He is survived by his wife of 64, years, L. Arlene; three children, Patricia Railing, Terry L. (Angela) Railing, and Barbara J. (Kevin) Plasterer, all of Shippensburg, five grandchildren, Kim Stouffer, Daniel and Adam Railing, Lauren Plasterer-Wilder, and Kyle Plasterer; three great great grandchildren, Samantha and Abigail Stouffer and Elijah Crumlich; brother, Richard (Dorothy) Railing of Shippensburg; one sister, Kim (Robert) Railing-Rogers of Fairmont, WV; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Cork was preceded in death by one sister.

His funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, May 24, 2014, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg. The Rev. James O. Bolich will officiate. Interment will follow in the Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg. Viewing will be Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., at the funeral home.
