Charles Stine

Charles W. Stine, 87, of Shippensburg, died on the morning of Wednesday, August 8, 2012, at the Chambersburg Hospital.
He was born on May 5, 1925, in Shippensburg, a son of the late Blain W. and Elsie Russell Stine.
Charles served in the U.S. Army from July 2, 1943 to January 19, 1946. He was in the field artillery and later transferred to the 1st Amphibious Engineers Speed Brigade, serving in the European Theatre of Operations. He made an amphibious landing on the Normandy Beach head the first day of the D-Day invasion, on June 6, 1944. Later he transferred to the Asiatic Pacific Theatre of Operations, landing at Okinawa. Charles earned four Battle Stars, a Bronze Spearhead, and numerous other metals and citations.
Upon discharge from the Army, Charles was employed at the Letterkenny Army Depot Ammunition Division, as a fork lift operator and later transferred to Heavy Equipment Operator. He retired in August of 1982, having thirty nine years and eight months of government service.
Charles was of the Protestant faith. He was an avid hunter, enjoyed gardening, and spending time at his cabin in Horse Valley. He was a life member of both the Durff-Kuhn V.F.W. Post #6168 and Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post #223.
He is survived by his son, Charles “Chuck” W. (Barbara) Stine, Jr., of Shippensburg; one grandson, Jeffery A. Stine of Chambersburg; two great grandsons, Nicholas J. and Kyle J. Stine, both of Shippensburg; two sisters, Doris (Frank) Stouffer and Anna Bell, both of Shippensburg; one brother, Frank (Judy) Stine of Shippensburg; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah M. Price Stine, who died on February 8, 2010; five sisters and four brothers.
His funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 11, 2012, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg. The Rev. Paul K. Hauk will officiate. Interment with military honors conducted by the Shippensburg Area Veterans Council will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Viewing will be one hour prior to the services on Saturday, at the funeral home.
