Charles M. “Rick” Wingerd, 74, of Shippensburg, departed this life on the afternoon of Saturday, February 25, 2017, at the Chambersburg Hospital.
He was born on October 1, 1942, the son of the late Harold C. Wingerd and Mabel V. Shoop Wingerd Jones and step-father Leslie K. Jones. Charles was a 1965 graduate of Shippensburg State College, earning a Bachelor of Science in History and Education. He married Deborah A. Owens on August 1, 1965, in the former Salem Evangelical United Brethren Church, Chambersburg.
Charles was currently employed as a claims processor for Highmark Blue Cross/Blue Shield. Earlier in life he worked as a store manager at the former McCrory Corp., and as a supply clerk at the Mechanicsburg Army Depot.
He was a member of the former Salem United Methodist Church, a current member of the Chambersburg First Church of God, and was a Sunday School teacher at both. In his free time Charles enjoyed reading and trivia. He especially enjoyed time spent with his family and grandchildren.
Charles is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Deborah; three children, Richard S. (Katie) Wingerd of York, Stephanie L. (Mike) Saam of Shippensburg, and Nicole R. (Matt) Shearer of Chambersburg; five grandchildren, Lyz, Alex, Andrew, Nick, and Samantha; one great grandson, Brayden; his sister, Shelby (Kenneth) Leedy of Chambersburg; and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, March 1, 2017, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. The Rev. Lawrence Metzler will officiate. Interment will follow in the Salem Cemetery, Chambersburg. Viewing will be one hour prior to his service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
