Charles Lester Craig, 72, Shippensburg, died peacefully in his home on the evening of Friday, October 9, 2015, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on March 16, 1943, in Fayetteville, NC, a son of the late Lester Charles and Mary Jean Wadel Craig. Charlie was a U.S. Army veteran during the Viet Nam war era, stationed in Germany with the 2nd Battalion Heavy Weapons Infantry, attaining the rank of Sergeant. He enlisted on June 12, 1961 and was honorably discharged on June 27, 1964. Soon after, he married Patricia Ann Gipe on October 24, 1964 at the Grace U.C.C., Shippensburg.
Charlie had a long career as a truck driver, retiring from ABF, Carlisle in 2011. He was a member of the Messiah United Methodist Church, and a life member of both the Durff-Kuhn V.F.W. Post #6168 and Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post #223, Shippensburg. He was a long-time supporter and donor to the Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots, the Wounded Warrior Project, and several other veteran charities. Charlie loved spending time with all his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Going to Chincoteague, VA, boating, hunting, and fishing, and mowing grass were just a few of his favorite things to do.
He is survived by his wife of almost 51 years, Patricia; four children, Charles Patrick Craig and his wife Kelly Mackey Craig, Clinton Lynn Craig and his fiance’ Diane Hershey, Chad Lee Craig and his wife Lisa Ann Meyers Craig, Cynthia Leann Craig McAllen and her husband Daniel McAllen; seven grandchildren, Shayla Darr and her husband Ryan Darr, Brittany Craig Wileman and her husband Travis Wileman, Colby Craig, Dillan Craig, Breanna McAllen, Nichole McAllen, and Sadie McAllen; seven great grandchildren, Alexis Wileman, Ryland Darr, Lindsey Craig, Aubree Wileman, Jase Wileman, and Brantley Darr; step-grandson, Harry Hampton; brother, James Craig and his wife Rae Sites Craig.
His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, October 14, 2015, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg. The Rev. Dr. Francis H. Norton will officiate. Interment with military honors, conducted by the Shippensburg Area Veterans Council, will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Viewing will be Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
