Charles Black

June 16, 1921 — August 25, 2012

Charles H. Black, 91, of Paxton Run Road, Newburg, died Saturday, August 25, 2012 in the Chambersburg Hospital.
Born Thursday, June 16, 1921 in Three Springs, Huntingdon County, he was a son of the late Harvey Nelson and Ruth Marks Black.
Charles was a United States Army Air Force Veteran serving in WWII. He retired from Letterkenny Army Depot as a mechanic with over 20 years of service and later retired from the Franklin County Prison as a Sergeant with over ten years of service.
Charles was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church, Newburg, a member of the Durff-Kuhn VFW Post # 6168, Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post # 223, Orrstown Lodge F. & A.M. # 262 and the Valley Forest # 145 Tall Cedars of Lebanon. He loved antique cars.
Surviving are six sons, Robert C. Black and wife Delores of Shippensburg, John M. Black and wife Jean of Newburg, Donald R. Black and wife Mary of Orrstown, Jim N. Black and companion Lisa of Newburg, Charles H. Black and wife Tracy of Chambersburg and Denver L. Black and wife Karen of Newburg, one daughter, Dorie L. Diehl and companion Jim of Newburg, one step-son Clair E. Stoops and wife Relda of Newburg, 15 grandchildren, six step grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, ten step great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by, first wife, Blanche Brantner Black, second wife, Martha E. Bumbaugh Black, third wife Lauretta Newman Black, one great grandson, Aaron Varner, one brother, Denver Black and one sister, Neva Fleming.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, August 30, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in Otterbein United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Cheryl Houser officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Shippensburg Veterans Council. A viewing will be held Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home with a Masonic service being held at 7:30 p.m. and a viewing one hour prior to the service in the church on Thursday.
