Carrie L. Gibbs, 105, a resident of Menno-Haven, Chambersburg, formerly of Carlisle, died Tuesday, June 19, 2012 in the home.
Born August 23, 1906 in Elkins, West Virginia, she was a daughter of the late William M. and Mary Catherine Slike Kent.
Carrie was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Shippensburg and was a 1925 graduate of Sigel High School in Jefferson County, PA. During World War II she worked at the Letterkenny Army Depot and also taught school in the Horse Valley area. Later in life she worked for the Marden Clothing Company in Shippensburg, Montgomery Ward in Carlisle and the Carlisle Hospital.
Carrie was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy M. Gibbs who died July 11, 1981. Four sisters and one brother are also deceased.
She is survived by one daughter, Betty Lou Mentzer of Lititz, seven grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 22, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Shippensburg with the Rev. Vernon Isner officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Holly Springs Cemetery. A viewing will be held Friday morning one hour prior to the services in the funeral home.
