Carole Burkett

Carol E. Burkett, a resident of Manor Care, Chambersburg, died on the evening of Saturday, November 1, 2014, at the Chambersburg Hospital.

She was born on March 19, 1950, in Chambersburg, a daughter of the late Forrest C. Mellott and Ruth E. Rosenberry Mellott. Carol married Gary L. “Big Red” Burkett on March 24, 1967, in the Shippensburg First Church of God. He preceded her in death on November 5, 2011.

Carol was self-employed in child care and also worked for the former Richards Textiles, in the past. She loved to play BINGO and spend time with her family.

In addition to her mother, Carol is survived by her daughter, Kathy A. (Toby) Seiders of Chambersburg; two sons, Shawn M. (Christy) Burkett of Shippensburg and Chuck A. (Marcy) Coover of Shippensburg; six grandchildren, Mercedes and Elkin Seiders, Gary Burkett, III and Login Burkett, and Kayla and Charlie Coover; one brother, Ronnie E. (Lisa) Mellott of Chambersburg; two sisters, Kathy E. (Harold) Mellott of Shippensburg and Nicole L. (Stephen) Ott of Chambersburg; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her father and husband, Carol was preceded in death by two children in infancy, Gary Lee and Tracey Lee Burkett; one grandson, Bradley A. Burkett; and one brother, Forrest ‘Chick” Mellott, Jr.

Her funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m., on Wednesday, November 5, 2014, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg. Pastor Dale Barrick will officiate. Interment will be private. Viewing will be one hour prior to the service on Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Vigilant Hose Fire Co., at 20 Walnut Bottom Rd. Shippensburg, PA 17257.
