Carol Underkoffler

Carol Sue Underkoffler, 60, of Shippensburg, passed away on May 31, 2010 in her home after a long battle with cancer.

Sue was born in Hershey, Pennsylvania, and was the daughter of the late Austin W. and Margaret V. Umberger. A graduate of Central Dauphin East High School and Messiah College, Sue was a retired elementary music teacher who taught for 29 years in the Shippensburg Area School District. She was an active member of the Shippensburg Church of the Brethren, where she served as Director of Music, Sunday School and Bible Study teacher. Sue brought joy to all who knew her through her music, laughter, and energy.

She is survived by her husband, Gerald L. Underkoffler; children Jeremiah D. (wife Deanna L.) of Mechanicsburg, Joseph A. (wife Amy E.) of Mechanicsburg, and Virginia S. (husband Paul D. Thomas) of Denton, Texas; brother John Landis Umberger (wife Margaret J.) of Palmyra; sister Janet I. (husband Paul I. Licker) of Melbourne, Florida; grandchildren Caleb I., Abigail O., Joel E., and Jonas A. Underkoffler.

Memorial services will be held at 3PM on Friday, June 4, 2010 at the Shippensburg Church of the Brethren, 253 East Garfield Street, Shippensburg, PA, 17257. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shippensburg Church of the Brethren, or to Fox Chase Cancer Center, 333 Cottman Ave., Philadelphia, PA, 19111.
