Carl Maxwell

Carl Harrum Maxwell, 97, a resident at Providence Place, Chambersburg, passed away Wednesday, November 8, 2017 in the Life Care Hospital, Mechanicsburg.

Born Sunday, August 1, 1920 in Roxbury, he was a son of the late William Harrum and Anna May Rowels Maxwell.

Carl was a member of the former Market Street Baptist Church in Harrisburg. Following his Army service before WWII, Carl Maxwell then enlisted into the U.S. Navy. He served onboard the heavy cruiser USS Quincy (CA-71) during battle operations against the Japanese homelands until the termination of hostilities.

Carl retired from Bethlehem Steel in Steelton as a Master Welder. He was a Life Member of the Durff-Kuhn VFW Post # 6168, Shippensburg and was a member of the Pleasant Hall Volunteer Fire Company. He was a lifelong New York Yankees Fan and he was also a Hershey Bears, Harrisburg Senators, and Washington capitals Fan. He loved to travel.

He is survived by one son, Edward C. Maxwell, New Cumberland; two granddaughters, Doreen A. Corica and Robin A. Jackson; one great granddaughter, Cheyenne Lee Isanski, all of Melbourne, FL, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Lucinda Kauffman who died September 2, 1990, and his companion Geraldine Estep.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 17, 2017 at 2:00 p.m., at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium Inc., with the Rev. John A. Ile, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Otterbein Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post # 223. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pleasant Hall Volunteer Fire Department, 9722 Cumberland Highway, P.O. Box 115 Pleasant Hall PA 17246.
