Carl Henry

Carl Andrew Henry, 81, of Upper Strasburg, departed this life on the morning of Wednesday, December 2, 2015, at his home, surrounded by his family.

He was born on August 29, 1934, in Shippensburg, a son of the late Mamie Warren Henry and was of the Protestant Faith. Carl was a U.S. Navy veteran, enlisting on November 25, 1953 and honorably discharged to the reserve on October 18, 1957, having served on the USS Ticondoroga Aircraft Carrier. He married Bonita Rose Eyer on April 12, 1958, at the Evangelical United Brethren Church, Upper Strasburg.

Carl had a long career as an electrician. He first spent eleven and a half years at the Chambersburg Engineering Company. Then he was a Facility Supervisor at the Letterkenny Army Depot, retiring in 1993. He also worked at Shippensburg University, in the Electrical Dept., retiring in 2002.

In his free time, Carl enjoyed hunting, long walks in the mountain, planting his garden, and loved spending time with his boys and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Bonita; his three sons, Jeffrey Carl Henry of Shippensburg, Daniel Howard (Susan) Henry of Chambersburg, and Paul Matthew (Jodi) Henry of Shepherdstown, WV; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Piper of Newburg and Jean White of Poconos; two brothers, Edgar Henry of Carlisle and Richard Henry of Newburg; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his mother, Carl was preceded in death by three sisters, Dorothy Henry, Mary Helm, and Janet Carbaugh; and one brother, Paul Henry.

His funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Monday, December 7, 2015, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg. Pastor Tim Redmond will officiate. Interment, with military honors conducted by the Shippensburg Area Veterans Council, will follow in the Parklawns Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be Sunday afternoon from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., at the funeral home.
