Calvin Reber

April 30, 1915 — March 10, 2012

Dr. Calvin H. Reber, Jr., 96, a resident of Menno Haven, Chambersburg, PA, died Saturday, March 10, 2012 in the home.
Born April 30, 1915 in Lebanon, PA., he was a son of the late Calvin H., Sr. and Stella Mease Reber.
Dr. Reber was a Professor of Evangelism and World Missions at United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio retiring in 1983. He was a 1936 graduate of Lebanon Valley College, a 1939 graduate of Union Theological Seminary, and received his Ph.D. from Columbia University. Between 1939 and 1942 he was a missionary in China then again from 1946 until 1951.
From 1942 until 1946 Dr. Reber was a Pastor at the Gravel Hill United Methodist Church in Palmyra, PA and until about seven years ago attended Park Avenue United Methodist Church in Chambersburg, PA. He was a member of the Eastern PA Conference of the United Methodist Church and the Association of Professors of Missions.
Dr. Reber was proud of the numerous articles that he wrote and published in many different publications.
Dr. Reber was preceded in death by his wife, Audrie E. Fox Reber who died December 1, 1987, and his brother Earl Reber.
He is survived by one daughter, Vera Blinn Reber and her husband John L. Offner of Chambersburg, PA and their daughter, Stella S. Reber Offner of Cambridge, MA, one son, James C. Reber and his wife Clarice of Indiana, PA and their children, Arthur Reber of Richmond, VA, and Eleanora Reber of Wilmington, NC, two great grandchildren, James and Julia Perkins of Wilmington, NC, one brother, James H. Reber of Telford, PA.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, March 15, 2012 at 10 a.m. in Gravel Hill Cemetery, Palmyra with Bishop George Bashore officiating.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, March 15, 2012 at 1 p.m. in the Menno Haven Chapel with Bishop George Bashore and Rev. Vernon Isner officiating. A visitation will follow the services.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Menno Haven Employee Appreciation Fund, 2075 Scotland Ave., Chambersburg, PA 17201, or the United Theological Seminary, EUB Center, 4501 Denlinger Road, Dayton, OH 45426.
