Bruce Whitmer

Bruce E. Whitmer, 86, of Shippensburg, died Friday, July 16, 2010 in the Chambersburg Hospital.

Born July 28, 1923 in Shippensburg, he was a son of the late Eber and Bessie Hancock Whitmer.

He retired from Valley Quarries in Shippensburg with over 40 years of employment. Bruce was a member of the Cleversburg United Methodist Church, Cumberland Valley Lodge # 315 F.&A.M., and a life member of both the Hub City Club in Shippensburg and Eagles Aerie # 1299, Carlisle. He was a graduate of Shippensburg High School.

He was preceded in death by his wife Vera Virginia Adams Whitmer who died February 16, 2005, and one granddaughter, Joann Spatz.

He is survived by one son, Robert E. Whitmer and his wife Wanda of Shippensburg, one daughter, Audrey R. Dice and her husband Harold of Fredericksburg , seven grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 22, 2010 in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home Inc., Shippensburg at 1:00 p.m. Officiating will be The Rev. Rocky W. Spear. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. A viewing will be held Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. in the funeral home.
