Betty Jane Snoke, 84, gently left this life on Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at the Carlisle Regional Medical Center, following a brief illness.
Born on August 4, 1926, in Shippensburg, a daughter of the late Walter Russell and Nellie (Kelly) Russell Jones.
Betty spent her entire life in the Shippensburg area. She was fully committed to her family, spending much of her time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, especially since her retirement from Shippensburg University in 1990. Betty loved to knit, and cook, and was famous for her mashed potatoes meat loaf and macaroni and cheese. She always drew a crowd of family around her kitchen table at holidays, all of whom will miss her dearly.
Betty is survived by two daughters, Barbara Anderson of Clemmons, NC, and Cheryl Sweigert of Pine Grove, PA; six grandchildren, Chris (Beth) Linn of Huntingdon, PA, Dawn (Billy) Hicks of Advance, NC, Ian (Kristen) Wewer of Newburg, PA, Ted Wewer of Wormleysburg, PA, Meredith Wewer of Pine Grove, PA, and Katherine Wewer of Etters, PA; fourteen great-grandchildren with one on the way; and a brother Walter “Bill” (Helen) Russell of Winnetka, California.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 7, 2011, in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg, with the Rev. Paul K. Hauk officiating. Interment will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. A viewing will be held Friday, May 6, 2011, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
