Betty Seibert

Betty Jean (Cressler) Seibert, 91, departed this life on the evening of Friday, December 9, 2022, in Grand Rapids, MI. She had lived most of her life in the Shippensburg, Boiling Springs, and Carlisle areas. Betty has been residing with her daughter, Dotty and husband Brett, in Grand Rapids for the past ten years.

She was born on February 17, 1931, in Shippensburg, a daughter of the late Dewey and Myra (Swanger) Cressler. Betty was a 1948 graduate of Shippensburg Area High School and a 1951 graduate of Harrisburg Polyclinic Hospital School of Nursing. She married Frederick E. Seibert on October 6, 1951. He preceded her in death on October 21, 2010, after fifty nine years of marriage.

Betty worked as a registered nurse (CPAN) with specialties in obstetrics, and post-anesthesia care. She retired after many years as the Carlisle Hospital Nursing Director of the Post Anesthesia Care Unit. Betty was a member of the American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses.

She loved traveling and shopping with her late husband Fred; family gatherings; knitting; sewing; playing cards; and jigsaw puzzles. She was a member of the Second Presbyterian Church in Carlisle for many years, and was very active in the church’s Prayer Shawl Committee, knitting many shawls over the years. Betty volunteered delivering Meals on Wheels and served as a judge of elections at her precinct in South Middleton Township.

She is survived by three children, Evelyn Weaver and husband Graham of Gettysburg, Thomas Seibert and wife Diane of Carlisle, and Dorothy Kinsey and husband Brett of Grand Rapids; five grandchildren, Matthew Lebo and wife Jessica of North August, SC, Stephanie Brown of Carlisle, Lindsay Lebo and wife Nicole of Carlisle, Heather Bollinger and husband Dave of Boiling Springs, and Brittany D’Cruz and husband Travis of Arlington, MA; great grandchildren, Allison, Lillian, Savannah, Madelyn, Mitchell, Hannah, Andrew, Jason, and Cecilia; a sister, Nancy Thompson and husband Ralph of Shippensburg; her beloved cat, Toby; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by three sisters, Margaret Seavers, Dorothy Cressler, and Janet Seibert.

Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, December 19, 2022, in the Memorial Lutheran Church, Shippensburg. Pastors Michael E. Allwein and Jeff Gibelius will officiate. Interment will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Viewing will be one hour prior to the service on Monday morning at the church.
