Betty J. MacKenzie, 81, of Shippensburg, died on the evening of Thursday, December 19, 2013, at the Chambersburg Hospital.
She was born on November 3, 1932, in Fairfax, AL, a daughter of the late Ridley and Alma O. Waters Gann. Betty was a 1949 Graduate of Valley High High School and a 1955 graduate of Judson College with a B.S. in Home Economics. On June 19, 1955, Betty married Dr. David F. MacKenzie, in Fairfax.
Betty was employed as a Home Economics teacher, in Pittsburgh, prior to raising her family. She then worked as the Office Manager at her husband’s dental practice, in Shippensburg, retiring in 1999. She was a long time member of Christ United Methodist Church, Shippensburg, and a former member of the Shippensburg Civic Club. Betty liked to sew and cook and especially loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Dr. David F. MacKenzie; her daughters, Joy L. (Joel Lesher) MacKenzie of Lancaster and Stacey Lea (Bill) Burke of Bethlehem; her brother, Thomas R. Gann, Jr. of Birmingham, AL; and two granddaughters, Madison M. and Hayley E. Burke, both of Bethlehem.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her son, Kirk A. MacKenzie, who died in 1972.
Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, December 23, 2013, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg. The Rev. James O. Bolich will officiate. Interment will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Viewing will be one hour prior to the services on Monday, at the funeral home.
