Betty Ann Gabler Gardner of Newburg, passed from this life on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 in the Chambersburg Hospital at the age of 86.
Born January 29, 1930 in McKinney, Cumberland County. Betty was a daughter of the late S. Errol and E. Grace Coleman Gabler. She also was preceded in death by her loving husband Charles Bryce Gardner who passed away in 2006, her only son, Anthony Charles Gardner who passed away in 2011, and one sister, Shelby Jean Perry.
Betty was a member of the Newburg United Methodist Church. She was an Aid at the former Newburg Elementary School, and for over 30 years was a volunteer in a hospital in Roselle, NJ, and at the Chambersburg Hospital. Before and after marriage she worked as a waitress at the Howard Johnson on the PA Turnpike. Betty was a member of the Chambersburg Hospital Auxiliary.
Betty loved to travel, play cards, and made the best apple pies, sugar cookies, and homemade ice cream. We will all miss her brown eyes and beautiful smile.
She is survived by three children, Christine Ann (Ray) Varner of Orrstown, Jane Lorraine (Richard) Bender of Newburg, and Bonnie Sue (Harvey Donald, III) Shearer of Shippensburg, a daughter-in-law who was like a daughter, Gail Irene Mix Gardner (Keith) Nailor of Newburg, 22 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 14, 2017 in the Newburg United Methodist Church at 10 a.m. with The Rev. Steven P. Salisbury officiating. Burial will be in the Otterbein Cemetery. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the services in church.
