Betty J. Evelhoch, 94, a resident of Green Ridge Village, Newville, went to be with the Lord with her family by her side, on the afternoon of Wednesday, August 12, 2015.
She was born on September 10, 1920, in Newville, a daughter of the late David and Clara Kennedy Nailor. Betty married James A. “Monk” Evelhoch, Sr. on August 2, 1941 in Hagerstown, MD. He preceded her in death on February 24, 1995.
Betty was a seamstress at the former Kinney Shoe, Carlisle, for many years. She was also a “domestic engineer”; cooking, cleaning, doing laundry, and providing child care for others.
She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Walnut Bottom and the South Newton Township Volunteer Fire Company and its Ladies Auxiliary. She could be counted on to bake countless pies and make candy eggs for various firehouse events. Betty always had a large vegetable garden, enjoyed crocheting doilies and afghans, and liked to play the organ at her home.
Betty is survived by her three sons, James A. (Sue) Evelhoch, Jr of Newville, David L. (Betty B.) Evelhoch of Shippensburg, and William L. (Kit) Evelhoch of Walnut Bottom; one brother, Benjamin (Norma) Nailor of Carlisle; nine grandchildren; twenty four great grandchildren; ten great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by five brothers, Charles, David, John, Robert, & William Nailor; and her three sisters, Eleida Loy, Mary Ramp, and Emma Mentzer.
Her funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Monday, August 17, 2015, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg. Pastor R. Bruce Henneman will officiate. Interment will follow in the Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be Sunday afternoon from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at the funeral home.
