Betty Jeane Binner, 93, lifelong resident of Shippensburg, departed this life on the evening of Thursday, November 15, 2018, at her home.
She was born on April 9, 1925, in Shippensburg, a daughter of the late Paul D. and Kathryn B. Burkholder Mentzer and was a 1943 graduate of Shippensburg High School. She married Howard J. Binner in 1945, in Hagerstown, MD. He preceded her in death on October 16, 1967.
Betty retired from the former Tollgate Restaurant, Shippensburg, where she worked as a waitress and bartender for over thirty years. She also worked at the former Walker’s Drug Store, Chambersburg, in her younger years.
Betty was a life member of the Durff-Kuhn VFW Post #6168 Ladies Auxiliary. She, along with her late sister, Peggy, delivered Meals on Wheels around Shippensburg for many years. Betty was very focused on her family and enjoyed cooking for all of them. In her free time she enjoyed crocheting and shopping.
She is survived by two sons, Jeffrey L. Binner and Ricky T. (Donna) Binner, both of Port St. Lucie, FL; one daughter, Gloria Jean Beecher of Shippensburg; one brother, Paul Mentzer, Jr. of Georgia; son-in-law, Charles Baer of Shippensburg; daughter-in-law, Barbara Binner of Florida; twelve grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by a son, Howard James Binner, Jr.; a daughter, Karen L. Baer; son-in-law, Terry L. Beecher; a brother, Michael Mentzer; her sister, Peggy Lou Martin; and one great granddaughter.
Her funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Tuesday, November 20, 2018, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. Interment will follow in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg. Viewing will be from 12:00 until 1:00 on Tuesday at the funeral home.
