Bessie F. Hamilton, 85, of Shippensburg, departed this life on the evening of Thursday, August 24, 2017, at the Chambersburg Hospital.
She was born on September 6, 1931, in Mainsville, the daughter of the late John W. and Laura S. Helm Baker. Bessie was a 1949 graduate of Shippensburg High School. She married Harold L. Hamilton, Sr., on March 15, 1956, in Shippensburg.
In her younger years, Bessie was employed at the former Richards Textiles, Shippensburg. She was primarily a homemaker throughout her life and was known as the family historian. In her free time, Bessie enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, gardening, and then canning and preserving what she would grow. She was a member of the Ridge Church of the Brethren.
She is survived by her husband of sixty-one years, Harold; three sons, Harold L. Hamilton, Jr., and wife Karen of Newville, Roger L. Hamilton and wife Jennifer of Newville, and Gary L. Hamilton and wife Monica of Shippensburg; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Bessie was preceded in death by her three brothers, John H., Walter C., and Clarence B. Baker.
Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Wednesday, August 30, 2017, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. The Rev. John Byers will officiate and Rev. Leon Davis will assist. Interment will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Viewing will be Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at the funeral home.
