Bertram J. “Bert” Mackey, 71, of Shippensburg, died Friday, November 2, 2012 at home.
Born May 6, 1941 in Chicago, IL, he was a son of Bertha Mackey of Chambersburg and the late Paul F. Mackey.
He was a member of the Shippensburg Church of Christ. Bert worked for T.B. Woods in Chambersburg, the Letterkenny Army Depot, and retired from the steam plant at Shippensburg University. He was a life member of the AMVETS Post # 224, Chambersburg, the Durff-Kuhn VFW Post # 6168, and the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post # 223, both in Shippensburg. Bert was a United States Army Veteran of Vietnam.
In addition to his mother Bert is survived by his wife, Susie A. Kirby Mackey, two sons, Terry L. Kirby and his wife Adele, and Shawn L. Mackey and his wife Karriam all of Shippensburg, eight grandchildren, Tucker and Aubrey Kirby, Dakoda Taylor, Landon and Matthew Barclay, and Kenny, Chelsea, and Leann Swan, three brothers, Floyd Mackey of Waynesboro, Donald Mackey of Traverse City, MI, and Robert Mackey of Shippensburg, two sisters, Paulette Zeger and Jackie Watson both of Chambersburg.
In addition to his father he was preceded in death by a daughter, Tina Swan, and a grandson, Connor Kirby.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 7, 2012 in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home Inc., Shippensburg at 11 a.m. Officiating will be Dennis E. Adams, Minister. Burial with military honors conducted by the Shippensburg American Legion and VFW Posts will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. A viewing will be held Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. in the funeral home.
