Bertha J. Gettel, 92, of Shippensburg, died on the morning of Thursday, July 17, 2014, at the Chambersburg Hospital.
She was born on August 24, 1921, in Shippensburg, a daughter of the late Miley and Susan Gelwicks Gettel.
Earlier in her life, Bertha worked at the former Marden Clothing Co., Shippensburg, and then moved on to work in the Housekeeping Dept. at Shippensburg University, retiring in 1986.
Bertha was a member of the Orrstown United Brethren Church and also the Durff-Kuhn V.F.W. Post #6168 ladies Auxiliary. In her leisure time she enjoyed bowling, crossword puzzles, and jigsaw puzzles.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan K. (Carl L.) Diehl of Lurgan; three grandchildren, Matthew C. (Candace) Diehl of Shippensburg, Timothy J. (Erin) Diehl of St. Thomas, and Beth A. (Jeff) England of Shippensburg; seven great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Bertha was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.
Her funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m., on Monday, July 21, 2014, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg. The Rev. Dr. Francis H. Norton will officiate. Interment will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Viewing will be Sunday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at the funeral home.
