Bertha (Birdie) Peltz Davis, 89, formerly of Shippensburg, late of Buford, GA, departed this life on the morning of September 9, 2016, at The Sunrise of Johns Creek Assisted Living Home.
Born on September 5, 1927, in Westminster, MD, she was a daughter of the late Charles Peltz and Adeline Snader Peltz and a sister to Mary Florence Peltz Smith, who died July 2007. Bertha married Redmond (Red) Stewart Davis July 1946 in Maryland. He preceded her in death on October 3, 2000.
Birdie and Red were true Soul Mates for 54 years. They worked through Life’s challenges together and shared their happiness entertaining friends, boating on the Chesapeake Bay, antiquing, golfing playing bridge, traveling and spending time with their children and grandchildren.
Birdie will be remembered most by her loving positive influence. She faced adversity with a “Tomorrow is Another Day” attitude and chose to focus on the many blessings she was given to lift her spirits as well as all those around her. She was an Ambassador of Joy, breaking out into song or bursting in knee-slapping laughter to fill a room with cheer. In her last years, Alzheimer’s caused her memory to fade, but not her cheerful spirit. She continued to greet visitors and caregivers with a loving smile and sparkle in her eyes and on cue could sing one of her favorite songs with perfect pitch.
She is survived by her twin children Jeannetta Davis Jordan of Buford GA and Jefferson Scott Davis of Charlotte, NC; and her three grandchildren Sarah Scott Davis of Charlotte, NC, Katrina Jordan Bylo of Clearwater, FL and Kody Charles Redmond Jordan of Buford GA.
In addition to her parents, sister and husband, Birdie was preceded in death by her two sons, Redmond Stewart Davis, Jr., who died May 1957 and Charles Herbert Davis, who died September 1985.
We invite you to celebrate Birdie’s Life with us at a Memorial Service to be held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, November 25, 2016, at the Shippensburg Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Michael K. Miller will officiate. Private interment will occur in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Visitation and luncheon reception will immediately follow the memorial service at the Davis House (the Fashion Archives and Museum of Shippensburg University) at 501 North Earl St. Shippensburg, PA 17257.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shippensburg University Foundation Music/Theatre Arts Department in memorial to Bertha Davis.
