Bernice Shifflett

Bernice H. Shifflett, 80, long-time resident of Orrstown, departed this life on the morning of Monday, April 17, 2017, at the Chambersburg Hospital.

She was born on November 20, 1936, in Staten Island, NY, a daughter of the late Gerald and Frances Hoyt Johanson.

Bernice pursued a long and exciting life as a traveler and military wife. She was a very worldly person whom possessed the ability to befriend anyone that came her way. As a lover of fashion and the arts, Bernice was an inspirational individual serving on the board at her local senior center. Bernice also spread her love and knowledge by volunteering for a number of years as an assistant dental hygienist and in an overseas thrift shop. Although she is gone, her legacy will continue to live on.

She is survived by two children, Steward F. Shifflett, Jr., of Tampa, FL and Sandra F. (Darron) Foose of Newville; four grandchildren, Brandon Shifflett, Justin Shifflett, Nakia Davis, and Nastassia Foose; two great grandchildren; two brothers, Dr. Andrew H. Johanson of Ambler and Gerald F. Johanson of Cheyney; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Bernice was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-four years, CW 4 Steward F. Shifflett, Sr. and one daughter, Starr F. Shifflett.

Her funeral service will be held at 6:00 p.m., on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. Interment will take place alongside her husband in the Ft. Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, the following day. Viewing will be one hour prior to the funeral service Thursday evening in the new crematorium building.
