Beatrice V. "Bea" Shoemaker

Beatrice V. “Bea” Shoemaker, 83, of Shippensburg, departed this life on the morning of Friday, November 22, 2024, at her home.

She was born on March 8, 1941, in Shippensburg, a daughter of the late Lester and Edna (Holtry) Hoch. Bea married James W. Shoemaker, Jr., in December of 1968. He preceded her in death on November 2, 2008.

Early in life, Bea worked at several of the former local garment factories. However for the past twenty-something years, she worked as a seamstress at CVR Uniforms and Towne Cleaners, from where she retired. Bea was a long-time member of the Pleasant Hall Volunteer Fired Company Auxiliary.

In her free time in younger years, Bea liked playing softball and volleyball. She also enjoyed camping, boating, playing BINGO, and most importantly, spending time with her large family.

Bea is survived by four children, James W. Shoemaker, III of Chambersburg, Randy L. Shoemaker of Shippensburg, Ricky B. Shoemaker of Shippensburg, and Dawn M. Shoemaker of Shippensburg; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; six siblings, Vera M. Jones of Tennessee, Ruthann Hockenberry of Shippensburg, William L. Hoch of Newburg, Carol J. Stoner of Chambersburg, Ronald L. Hoch of Shippensburg, and Robert W. Hoch of Newburg; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and spouse, Bea was preceded in death by a grandson Michael Shoemaker; and four brothers, Paul L., Richard L., Jeffrey E., and Lester C. Hoch.

Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. Pastor Leon Davis will officiate. Interment will follow in the Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. Viewing will be one hour prior to the service on Wednesday morning at the funeral home.
