Basil L. Kirby entered into eternal peace on Sunday, February 21, 2021 at the Chambersburg Hospital.
Born on Tuesday, March 26, 1940 in Sarton, WV, he was the son of the late Kelly and Stella (Morgan) Kirby.
Basil retired from Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg. He continued to work part-time at Tractor Supply Co.
He enjoyed farming and raised chickens, quails, and pheasants. Basil also loved fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family and friends. He was a fun-loving and kind hearted person.
Basil is survived by his lifelong friend, Bertha Myers; one sister, Betty Dellinger of Gettysburg; three brothers, Kelly (Marsh) Kirby of Shippensburg, Ronnie (Amelia) Kirby of Colorado, and Gary (Sharon) Kirby of Newville; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Basil was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis J. (Swanger) Kirby who passed away on May 4, 1995. Also preceding him in death are three brothers, Billy, Mickey, and Larry Kirby.
A public viewing will be held on Thursday, February 25, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc. A brief graveside service will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery at 11:15 a.m. Pastor Dale A. Detweiler will officiate.
