Avis Laidig

Avis Jean Laidig, a resident of Green Ridge Village, Newville, and formerly of Shippensburg, died Tuesday, June 30, 2015 in Green Ridge Village.

Born September 10, 1925 in Columbus, NE, she was a daughter of the late Edward H. and Hannah May Russell Held.

Jean was a retired sales agent at the former Kenneth Hale Real Estate Agency. In the early 1950’s, she taught in high schools at various schools in the Mid-West, as well as Puerto Rico. Upon moving to Shippensburg in the late 1960’s, she did substitute teaching in the Shippensburg Area school District and at the Hagerstown Business College.

She was past president of the Shippensburg Civic Club and the Shippensburg Business and Professional Women’s Club.

Jean was a member of the Middle Spring Presbyterian Church.

She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Education at the University of Nebraska in 1948. While there she met her future husband, Dr. Kermit M. Laidig. They were married June 5, 1948 in Fullerton, NE. Dr. Laidig died March 6, 2014.

Jean is survived by one son, Reginald B. Laidig and his partner Dennis Cramer, of Newburg; one granddaughter, Elizabeth A. Laidig, of Twins Falls, ID; and one sister, Gladys Kuehn, of Hastings, NE. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Dr. Bruce E. Laidig and one sister, Anna Mae Clark.

Funeral services will be held Monday, July 6, 2015 at 11:00 AM in the Middle Spring Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Kimberley Wadlington will officiate. Burial will be in Middle Spring Cemetery. A visitation will follow the service in the church social hall.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Middle Spring Presbyterian Church, 135 Middle Spring Road, Shippensburg, PA 17257.

Arrangements are in charge of the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg.
